Removals in Chiswick.
Across the bridge and a genuinely different job from W6. Bigger houses, more period detail, more gardens and garages — and a quota of Chiswick moves that are really moves out of London.
Chiswick sits immediately across the river from us, which makes it a natural extension of the patch rather than an outpost. It is also, in removals terms, a different kind of work. Where W6 is dominated by flats, conversions and mansion blocks, W4 has a much higher proportion of whole houses — and with them lofts, cellars, gardens, garages and sheds.
The practical effect is straightforward: Chiswick moves are usually larger in volume and easier in access.
The parts of it
Bedford Park
One of the first garden suburbs and a conservation area throughout. Distinctive Arts-and-Crafts houses with a great deal of original joinery, stained glass, tiling and fireplaces. Access is generally fine — the streets were planned rather than accumulated — but the interiors want careful handling and more protective material than a modern house.
Grove Park and the riverside
The larger houses towards the river south of the High Road. Driveways, wide frontages, substantial volume. These are among the biggest household moves we do, and they are almost always worth an in-person survey rather than a video call, because the outbuildings and cellars carry more than anyone estimates.
Chiswick High Road and around Turnham Green
Denser — flats above shops, converted houses, and the commercial strip. This is the part of Chiswick that behaves most like Hammersmith: permit parking, loading windows, stairs. It is also where most of the area's office and studio work sits.
Strand-on-the-Green and the river
Beautiful and awkward in the same way as our own riverside. Some addresses have no vehicle access to the door, and the carry from the nearest legal stopping point is the real variable.
Two administrative differences from W6
Worth knowing, because they affect timing. Chiswick sits in the London Borough of Hounslow, not Hammersmith and Fulham, so parking suspensions go through a different authority with its own lead time and process. And conservation-area status across much of W4 means more of the housing stock has protected features than in W6.
Neither changes what we do. Both change when the paperwork has to start.
Moving out of Chiswick
A meaningful share of W4 work is leaving London entirely — Surrey, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, the Cotswolds. Those are full house removals with a long drive attached, planned around the unload rather than the load.
See house removals for whole homes, office removals for the High Road and business park, and areas we cover for the rest of the patch.
Chiswick questions
Do you actually cover Chiswick, or is it an afterthought?
It is core work. Chiswick is across Hammersmith Bridge from our patch and we are there most weeks — it is not a postcode added to a coverage list. The housing is different enough from W6 that it needs its own approach, which is why it has its own page rather than a bullet point.
What is different about Bedford Park?
It is a conservation area and one of the earliest garden suburbs, so the houses have protected features and a lot of original joinery, tiling and glass. We protect more heavily there and plan the route for large pieces before starting. The streets themselves are manageable; the interiors are what need care.
Is parking as bad as W6?
Different rather than worse. Chiswick is permit-controlled and the High Road side streets fill early, but many of the Grove Park and Bedford Park houses have a driveway or at least a wider frontage than a Hammersmith terrace. Where a suspension is needed we apply for it with Hounslow rather than Hammersmith and Fulham — a small administrative difference that matters to the timing.
Do you do Chiswick office moves?
Yes — the High Road, the business park and the smaller studios around Turnham Green. Same approach as W6: the building sets the schedule, and labelling by destination decides whether Monday works.
Can you handle asbestos found during a clear-out?
No, and nobody in removals should say otherwise. It turns up in older west London garages, floor tiles and textured ceiling coatings. Asbestos removal needs a licensed contractor with specific containment. Stop, get it tested, and we will move everything around it once it has been dealt with properly.
Moving in or out of Chiswick?
Both addresses, the floor at each end, and roughly what is going. That is enough for a real figure.
